The Languages of Care,
Care Workshop, Pari, 2026.
The Care Workshop, Languages of Care, was facilitated on 25th of October 2026 at Pari - Parramatta.
Languages of Care explores the performative dimensions of care through the repetition of everyday care actions. Working in pairs, participants lean on one another, remove each other's shoes, help with a jacket, and apply cream to each other's hands. Each action is performed twice: once in silence and once while talking.
Through these simple interactions, the workshop focuses on communication, consent, and bodily awareness, highlighting how care is negotiated through both verbal and non-verbal exchange. Care is understood as a mutual exchange of time, energy and purpose. Its reciprocity requires an ongoing negotiation of the self, a process through which the boundaries of the "I" soften and a sense of "we" emerges.
The workshop invites participants to consider how they care for others and themselves, what these interactions mean to them, and how to maintain care as an active practice in the current social and political climate. Participants are encouraged to choose their own level of involvement throughout, with consent and personal agency remaining central to the experience.
Running for approximately 90 minutes, Languages of Care can be adapted for arts programmes, educational contexts, health and care settings, and community groups.
