Lay with Me,
Performance,
10 hours, Sydney College of the Arts, 2016

Lay with Me is a participatory performance in which audience members are invited to lie with me for as long or as little as they wish. Each participant and I engage in conversation, mutual gaze, or meditation as I hold them.

When thinking about informal caregiving, the bed and other intimate spaces of the home become sites of performance. The bed is an intimacy space. When a formal caregiver enters to provide functional needs, it becomes a workspace. By inviting strangers into the bed to care for them in a different way—as an offering to connect—we play with the space and its possibilities.
