Hallways Walking,
Video Performance, 2017
Hallways Walking is a video performance that explores the significance of hallways as thresholds within the home. These passageways serve as the backbone of a house, providing not only structural support but also a space to pace and remember. As bodies age and weaken, the walls become handles, helping us maintain balance and stability. Hallways offer a route to our destinations while also providing opportunities for reflection and recollection.
Connecting different rooms and individuals with varied identities, hallways are spaces where paths intersect and overlap within the shadows. In the performance, a dancing figure contrasts with those who shuffle through at their own pace. The sounds of footsteps and the rhythm of movement fluctuate, sometimes silenced, but always maintaining a palpable beat sensed only by those nearby. Hallways Walking serves as a reminder of the familial foundations that shape our identity through personal rhythm and highlights the importance of preserving these spaces of memory and bodily connection.
