The Existing Momentum,
Video Work, 2013
This single-channel video performance installation encapsulates the space between visibility and invisibility—the generational links and bonds within a family. Family history and shared experiences shape abilities and relationships, forming the foundation for our understanding and connection to others. As time passes, the rhythm of family dynamics shifts. Each person occupies the doorway, walking into and through the light toward an unseen destination. Another family member follows closely, their momentum constant but uniquely their own.
The fundamental needs of others cannot be met in isolation. Our understanding of self is continually reshaped by being present to these shared experiences. Mirroring and reflecting one another, we create a rhythm—a song we all move to. This rhythm may not always be heard or seen, but it animates our presence and the experience of being together.
