The Existing Momentum,
Video Work, 2013
This single-channel, video-performance installation, encapsulates the gap between visibility and invisibility: the generational link and bond between family members. The family's history and experiences shape their abilities and relationships with one another. This essential experience forms the structure for our understanding and connection to others. As time progresses, the rhythm of a family's dynamics changes. Each person occupies the doorway. They walk into and through the light: their destination is an unseen space. Another family member follows them closely; the momentum is constant, and their own version of steady.
The basic needs of others are fundamental but cannot be met individually. The ever-changing understanding of self remains in the essence of being present to these experiences. Mirroring and reflecting create a rhythm for a song that we all move to. This rhythm is not always heard or seen but inhabits the experience of our presence.
